VOICE

OVER

When constructing my voiceover, the main thing I wanted to be highlighted was my message about loving yourself. Therefore it was important I explained what was going on in scenes so everything is obvious to my viewer or give subtle hints. I knew I wanted to start the voiceover slightly poetic and not just straight off with depressive words, this voiceover was something I always wanted from the beginning so it was important I spent time refining it.

Voiceover from my short film

Dear Megan...

  • The element of silence was something I did not want to explore in my short film thus i had to find instrumentals that would complement the scene that was happening.

  • I searched on youtube for instrumentals that were copyright free by searching 'love instrumentals' and other feelings such as excitement. Upon researching I found instrumentals that were both minor and major key, I decided to go with major key instrumentals because it connotes more of a happy and joyous mood.

  • Throughout my short film I do not want there to many sounds, so I explore the use of repeatition of instrumentals that I used earlier in the film.

 Dialogue

  • The dialogue within my short film is very miminal, at first it wasn't but upon editing I did not see the need for those scenes which left my film with only one line of dialogue.

  • "I can't do this"

  • This This dialogue is said by the female protagonist after she hesitates cutting her wrist, I felt that putting some dialogue here would allow the audience to Sympathies with Megan. Also the dialogue is not only reflective of Megan's action at the end of the scene but her overall mental state by the end of the short film as she can no longer see her faults as something detrimental to her love life and she no longer stresses and antagonizes over still being single.

 Recorded sound

  • The recorded sound is of someone singing a cover about a song about how society  creates a 'perfect'  vision of what is beautiful therefore i thought it would appropiate for the begining of my short film to subtly  indiciate  wwhat my film centers around- insecurity, beauty and love.

The song is called Pretty Hurts:

A Sound production was important as sounds and background music can alter the feel of a short film and influence emotions as well. I majoritly had non-diagectic sounds because I wanted the lack of diagectic sounds to further show Megan loneliness.

Yours Sincerly, Megan xo
